This year's Canungra Classic heralds a new level of public visibility of hang gliding competitions. Two grand stands were provided at Mt Tamborine launch to keep the public from wandering too close to the hang gliding launch area. The grand stands were very popular. Dave Pearson and Peter Beard provided continuous coverage of the day's event over a Public Address sound system, explaining the intricacies of an open / ordered launch window, and providing pilot profiles on each pilot as they launched. They also gave regular reports on how pilots were flying down the course and how many had reached the first turnpoint.
Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate and the day ended with no points value
