PRESS RELEASE - FINAL RESULTS

The 6th Annual Canungra Classic Hang Gliding Championships were competed at Mt Tamborine and Beechmont from 11th to 18th October 1997. Fine weather conditions allowed flying on all eight days. Big tasks were not possible this year due to strong inversions (the weather condition that causes smog) early in the week and strong headwinds late in the week. The longest task completed was 62 km from Mt Tamborine to Palen Creek near Mt Lindsay. Pilots achieved altitudes of up to 7,500 feet ( 2.3 km ). While flying, pilots were treated with excellent views of Moreton Bay, Gold Coast, Lamington National Park, and the Border Ranges.
